Vertex Events and Aligarh Muslim University Alumni-UAE organized Sir Syed Day 2016 function with great zeal and fervor at Radisson Blue Hotel, Sharjah, UAE.
His Excellency Suhail Mohd Al Zarooni, Guinness World Record Holder, Chairman Al Zarooni Foundation & the Emirati Entrepreneur along with Padam Sri Zafar Iqbal, Former Indian Hockey Captain and Olympian was the Chief Guest.
Mr Mohammad Saeed Al Qudsi, Advisor to H.H. Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mr Basheer Haskkouri, Advisor to Sheikh Thahoon Bin Saeed Bin Shahbout were the Guest of Honors. All the eminent and respectable dignitaries, VVIP’s and H.E Suhail Mohd Al Zarooni were called upon the Stage for an honors and facilitations, where a book on Sir Syed and the memento as a token of memory were presented to Suhail Al Zarooni.
Welcoming the guests, the provost of the Hall, the organizers said that very few people in the history have proved themselves as an excellent combination of knowledge and character. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was one of such charismatic personalities who earned an immortal position for him in the history through dedication and commitment for the development of the society. The celebrations on his birth anniversary throughout the World is a testimony to the love and respect that people have for him.
A vivid speech was delivered on Sir Syed and his message. While explaining the importance of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the Speaker told that Sir Syed felt that Indian Muslims are economically, socially and educationally backward due to their own superstitious beliefs. Sir Syed understood that uplifting of the community can be achieved through providing them modern education and particularly English education, which was prohibited by religious orthodoxy of that time.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was futuristic and a great visionary so he established MAO college which eventually became the Aligarh Muslim University amidst social restrictions and harsh boycott. He was secular to the core of his heart and this is evident from his quote that Hindus and Muslims eat same crop, drink the water from same river and take breath in the same air as a matter of fact Hindus and Muslims are two eyes of same and beautiful bride i.e., Hindustan and weakness of any one of them will actually weaken this beautiful country.
He opposed ignorance, superstitions and evil customs prevalent in Indian Muslim society. He firmly believed that Muslim society would not progress without the acquisition of western education and science. As time passed, Sir Syed began stressing on idea of pragmatic modernism and started advocating for strong interfaith relations between Islam and Christianity. Sir Syed in his lifetime, revisiting his thought and vision of paving the way for educational and intellectual development of the nation.
Al Zarooni, who is a philanthropist, a leading business tycoon in Middle East, said that he has visited many educational institutions across the world and though He hasn’t got an opportunity to visit AMU yet, but he has heard that there is a different sense of discipline and decorum among the students of AMU. The work culture and sense of belonging put AMU among the best institutions of the World.
